This collection features images, architectural reports, and other historical documentation of structures built in Lewis County before 1939.
About This Project: To improve access to historic structure documentation, the Lewis County Public Library and Archives launched a digitization project in 2024. This effort preserves and shares 305 surveys conducted by the Lewis County Historical Society between July 11, 1989 and November 30, 1990.
Structure locations on the digital map have been carefully aligned with modern E-911 addresses based on staff research. Some surveyed structures have since been demolished, and this project also includes efforts to pinpoint their former locations. While every effort was made to ensure accuracy, some locations could not be precisely identified. When a structure had both a historic and common name, the historic name was chosen as the primary identifier.
The original surveys were conducted following the Tennessee Historical Commission’s methodology. More details about this survey can be found here: 1990 Survey Completion Report.
